King’s Students Fill “Stossel” Live Taping

On November 15th a group of King's students attended a live taping of John Stossel’s television program before he appeared Thursday at the school for an official Presidential Scholar Q&A.

The studio was almost full of King's students Tuesday night, and a few had the opportunity to ask his guests questions during the show about free speech on and off college campuses.

Stossel and his guests addressed the problem of censoring speech and campaign activity. Stossel also addressed the recent shut-down of Occupy Wall Street and shared his own views on the censorship of speech.

This year, the Presidential Scholars line-up includes philosophers, a theologian and an economist. Stossel is the only journalist.

Christopher Ross, the program manager of the King's Presidential Scholars, organized the event and secured tickets for a select number of students that filled the auditorium. Students were engaged throughout the program and invited to attend the Q&A with a better picture of who the speaker is and what he does.

It was definitely a great opportunity to be able to attend the show. I really enjoyed the taping, and it was a good experience, especially for students who hadn’t been to a taping before,” Mallory Brand (’15) said, a student who attended the screening.

Students were also able to contribute to the program by filling out a survey on the freedom of speech.

“I thought it was an awesome privilege to be able to come out to the show,” Jeremy Cerone ('13) said.
