Light Saber Battle This Saturday

A light saber battle hosted by Newmindspace will occur in Washington Square Park this Saturday, September 24th and will last from 9 p.m. until 11 p.m.  The event itself is free, but unarmed participants can reserve a toy light saber for $5 online at www.newmindspace.com.  Be sure to arrive an hour early in order to pick up your light saber at the table.

The Jedi and Sith of Manhattan fought their first battle last year using painted cardboard tubes.  This year, participants will wield color-changing LED light sabers.  The light sabers sell fast, so if you’re interested, reserve one now.

Newmindspace is a nonprofit organization founded by Lori Kufner and Kevin Bracken who began organizing fun, free outdoor events in New York City, Toronto, Montreal, San Francisco and Vancouver in March of 2005.  The events included parties on subway cars, public pillow fights, games of capture the flag on city streets, bubble battles, public art installations and more.

Money from these events goes to charities supporting massive public art programs.
