The TKC men’s basketball team lost their first scrimmage Saturday against Cooper Union 77-64.

The game was closer than the scoreboard shows. At one point, King's was down by 10 points in the second half and cut the lead down to three with two minutes left. But they couldn’t capitalize on the momentum.

This year’s squad is completely rebuilt with only three returning players (team captain David Dantzler ('13), Greg Baumann ('13) and Jeremiah Gill ('15)) and five freshmen (Gezim Usini, Tyler Hinsley, Cecil Harris, Marcus Chapman, and Josiah Chapman).

The team also has a new head coach, Damian Rosado.

We played hard and learned a lot from the game," Dantzler said. “I think we did really well considering it was our first time playing together. The King's basketball program has a bright future and we're excited for rest of the season."

The first official game is Nov. 3 at home, against Sarah Lawrence College at 6 pm. The game will be held at Simon Baruch Middle School (take 4, 5, 6, or L train). The team plays Cooper Union again Dec. 1.
