King’s Hosts SBP Bananza Event

Friday, Feb 18 marked the annual “Bananza” event for the SBP race where nominees answered a series of questions that revealed their humor and sparked laughter from the student body. This event provided a way for students to get to know the running candidates in a casual and lighthearted atmosphere and really get a look into their personal lives and personality.
Director of Spiritual Life Moses Kazanjian and Harrison Chapman mc-ed the event and provided a fun and upbeat environment while sporting a full lion mask and a pair of reindeer ears.
The event consisted of segments including Never Have I Ever that exposed candidates’ history through their social media archives, a game of Pictionary, celebrity Cabinet selections and embarrassing stories told via a Zoom call with their parents.
The Bananza began with a dramatic entrance from the three candidates. Mattie Winburn, current president of the House of Barton, entered wearing an 80s-esque workout suit while spewing candy to the audience. When asked what celebrity she would select for spiritual life for her cabinet, she responded with “Kanye West.” Also, ask her about her red bloomers story if you want to see her blush…
Next entered candidate Abby Roth, currently on the Cabinet as Director of Student Orgs, sporting her signature hot pink sparkly cowboy hat. When asked if she still stands by her tweet from 2017, “Life’s a journey, not a competition,” she replied. “Feeling a little more competition but it's still a journey.”
Finally, current House of Reagan President Max Pleban entered wearing shorts and a Hawaiian t-shirt, despite the 30 degree temperatures outside. When asked if he had ever had a crush on a professor in the, “Never Have I Ever” segment, he replied with, “Yeah, that man back there,” while pointing to Dr. Kinlaw sitting in the back of the room.
The event concluded with questions from the audience, including topics of free housing for married couples, utensils in the Fishbowl and favorite Taylor Swift album.
Finally, a voting from the audience in the form of tossing their banana peels in the bucket of who they thought was funniest. Winburn won this event with a total of 36 bananas.
