King’s announced the SBP candidates for the 2022-2023 school year Friday afternoon. The candidates include Mattie Winburn, Abby Roth and Max Pleban.

All the candidates expressed their reason for running and their vision for the school if they are to win the SBP election.

“I realized in my last two years of leadership how much I really love the people of this school,” Winburn, current President of Barton, said. “I want to be the person that advances the ideas of our student body and pushes us forward as we grow.”

“This was my number one school since freshman year of high school and I have really loved my time here, but I also recognize that that isn’t everyone's experience and so I want to hear and represent everyone from the student body,” DoSO Abby Roth said.

“After the COVID-19 year, now we can look for an opportunity of growth, especially within the house system and in our mission statement,” said Pleban, who is currently serving as president of Reagan.

Many students think this decision will be difficult due to the love and support each candidate will receive from the community and the civility towards each other.

“I think there are high expectations from each candidate. They all seem to have a great vision for the school to bring the mission forwards and preserve the traditions we have, and I think that’s really valuable when considering who to support.” The President of Winston Churchhill, Luke Gainey, said.

From Feb. 15 to 25, there will be various events that the Council will host to allow these candidates to prove to the King’s community that they should be the next SBP.

“This is about finding a candidate whose vision for this community you can get behind and support,” current SBP Brent Buterbaugh said.
