King’s provost Dr. Mark Hijleh and its Director of Student Development, Jonathan Sheaffer, will leave King’s at the end of the school year to take new job opportunities.

Jonathan Sheaffer, Director of Student Development and an advisor for the House of C.S. Lewis has taken a new job at The Chapel in Akron, Ohio as Director of Young Adult Ministries.

“We actually decided to move to Ohio before I found a job,” Sheaffer said. “Both of our [Sheaffer and wife’s] families are from there, and so we made the decision about a year ago that our goal would be to do one more school year and then leave.”

According to Sheaffer, the thing he will miss most about King’s is the House of C.S. Lewis.

“So many good friendships and relationships there, so it’s by far the thing that makes it hardest to leave,” Sheaffer said.

Before becoming an advisor, Sheaffer served as Chamberlain in the House of Winston Churchill during his senior year at King’s in 2012.

“I’m leaving King’s, but that doesn't mean these relationships are over,” Sheaffer said. “I've made really good friends in the House [of C.S. Lewis], with staff and faculty who I’ll have friendships with the rest of my life.”

Dr. Mark Hijleh, Provost and Professor of Music, has accepted the position of Vice President for Academic Affairs at Montreat College’s School of Arts and Sciences.

Hijleh will make the move to Montreat, NC with his wife and two children and begin work in July 2021.

“Seven years ago the King’s community welcomed me and my family to New York City and the mission and ministry of King's,” Hijleh said. “I joined the enterprise because this is such an amazing, distinctive place, and my thoughts and feelings on that have not changed at all.”

Hijleh first served as Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty in 2014. According to Hijleh, King's is unique and has a special calling to continue to flourish for the sake of God's Kingdom.

“I will always be a fan of King's, of the spirit of excellence and entrepreneurship that animates her,” he said.

Hijleh and his family are extremely grateful for the opportunity to work and fellowship with so many wonderful people.

“[It was] a life-changing, life-enhancing experience that we will never forget,” Hijleh said. “I will especially miss working within the strong, clear focus of King's mission, its cultural engagement, and how that is aptly manifested in a curriculum around Politics, Philosophy and Economics.”
