In the City Room on Friday afternoon, Koby Jackson was announced as the student body president for the 2019-2020 school year.

Brandon Smith, the current student body president, made the announcement to a crowd of about 60 students.

“Before I pass the baton, I wanted to thank you all for letting me have the job,” Smith said.

Jackson won 56 percent of the vote, according to David Leedy, Dean of Students, out of a total of 331 votes which is 68 percent of the student body.

Jackson gave a short speech in which he called for students to stay involved.

“From seniors to freshmen,” he said. “And not just during interregnum.”

Blake Ashley, Jackson’s opponent, also said a few words to the room. He was thankful for a clean campaign and stated his support for Jackson’s term. Ashley is unsure if he’ll apply for a cabinet position.

“The student body selected a good man for the job,” Ashley said after the results. “I’ll be praying for him.”

Jackson will send out application for cabinet positions once he has spoken with Dean Leedy.

“The sooner the better,” Jackson said. “Anyone who feels qualified, please apply.”

Leedy expressed optimism towards Jackson’s term saying “he’ll do great,” while adding that the new SBP has a deep heart for the community and knows the student body well.

“Even though I voted for Blake, I know the school is in good hands with Koby,” said Annie Mae Jones, a junior in the House of Thatcher.

After several weeks of campaigning, Jackson was still feeling the rush from the adventure.

“My heart is still pumping; I didn’t sleep last night,” said Jackson after the results were announced.
