The King’s Council is hosting a spirit week leading up to the annual Fall Picnic this Saturday.

Each day has a different theme, and students are required to dress within guidelines presented by the Council. A list of guidelines has been presented and goes as follows: no full-coverage masks (must be able to see & recognize who you are), no midriff or excessive skin showing, closed-toed shoes always, hat and beanies are allowed but should be able to be removed for class, nothing gory, no cultural misappropriation, no inappropriate attire, and to be classy and sensitive to other people.

“The goal in creating a Spirit Week was to cut through the stress and professionalism that can sometimes be overwhelming at King's,” Director of Student Events Rebekah Lambdin said. “College doesn't need to be all blazers, books, and bow ties. I'm hoping this week allows the students to relax a bit and make some fun memories on campus.”

Anyone not participating must be in business casual. Any student who fails to dress appropriately may be sent home to change into regular business casual attire.

Monday is “Twin Day,” Tuesday is “Decades Day,” Wednesday is “Tacky Tourist Day,” Thursday is “Disney Day,” and Friday is “Spirit Day.”

Some days have specific requests as well. With decades day, only attire from the 50’s-80’s will be allowed, and 90’s theme attire is prohibited. For the spirit day on Friday, students can wear King’s gear or house items, but jeans are still not allowed. Faculty and staff have tickets that say, "Congrats. You're best dressed," and will be handing them out to students whom they think dressed creatively or are the best dressed throughout the week.

“[Students] should participate because if you are dressed up, you get free treats and goodies in the fishbowl everyday,” Lambdin said. “There are also over 150 prizes for the whole week. Professors, staff, and the cabinet are all handing out prize tickets that students can turn in at Student Services and redeem for lots of cool things.”

Prizes include items like candy bars, packs of gum, chips, stress balls, and Chick-fil-A sandwich cards. There could be potentially around 30 winners each day.

Spirit week will last from today, October 28, through Friday, November 1. The Fall Picnic will be on November 2, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park. The day will include the annual powderpuff game hosted by The King’s Council.
